Five Reasons to Visit Turks & Caicos in 2018

The first couple of months of the year can be a particularly grim time of year, as you trudge back to work in the wet and the cold, so what better time to start looking forward to the holiday of a lifetime for 2018?

The first couple of months of the year can be a particularly grim time of year, as you trudge back to work in the wet and the cold, so what better time to start looking forward to the holiday of a lifetime for 2018?

The Turks & Caicos islands in the Caribbean are the perfect destination for sun, sea, sand and much, much more and here are five reasons why.

Much More Than Beaches
While the Caribbean is known for its beaches (and the TCI are home to some of the world’s best), the islands have much more to offer than just this. One of the more unique attractions is the Caicos Conch Farm, which is where the island’s native Caribbean Queen Conch is cultivated. It’s a pretty fascinating creature and the likes of which you’ll have never seen before, so it makes a nice change from lounging on the beach!

The islands are also the perfect opportunity to try out some watersports, such as snorkelling, scuba diving and more.

The Accommodation
As a popular holiday destination, the TCI are home to some amazing resorts, which cater to all kinds of holidaymakers and budgets. The best of the resorts are found along the famous Grace Bay Beach, such as the Blue Haven and Alexandra ResortsThese resorts couldn’t be better placed, with many having their own beach-side restaurants and bars as well as golf courses situated not too far away. However, if you cast your net further afield, there are all kinds of places to stay, and a trip to the Caribbean doesn’t have to cost as much as you might think.

Space to Yourself
Unlike some other Caribbean islands, you’re sure to get a moment to yourself in Turks & Caicos.
Many of the islands and cays that make up the country are uninhabited and they’re all easily accessible by boat if you want to go and completely shut yourself off from the outside world.
You can charter out a catamaran tour through companies such as Island Routes.

Great Food
We’ve already mentioned the island’s most famous delicacy, the conch, which is enjoyed in a number of different ways by islanders, whether it be fried, grilled, in soup, ceviche or fritters. Da Conch Shack is the best place in the islands to give it a try, but the TCI are also home to a number of fine dining restaurants such as Cocovan and Coco BistroThe weekly Fish Frys are also a great way to experience some local grub and enjoy a bit of a party with the locals.

Wildlife
For such a small chain of islands, you might be surprised at the amount of wildlife that you can bump into on a TCI holiday. For example, you can spot humpback whales, jumping eagle rays and may even spot JoJo, a local bottlenose dolphin who is something of a local celebrity! While the skies outside might be grey right now, why not give yourself something to look forward to with a once in a lifetime trip to the Turks & Caicos Islands later this year.
